Unlocking Organic Crop Performance: An Overview of FlexaTrac® DME-ORG

In organic agriculture, finding formulation components that combine regulatory compliance with high performance can be a challenge.

FlexaTrac® DME-ORG is an OMRI-listed adjuvant based on ester chemistry designed exclusively for organic farming formulations in the United States. Combining high active solvency, surface tension reduction, and an environmentally favorable profile, it serves as a versatile tool for agricultural formulators

Why formulators choose it

  • OMRI-listed. Approved for use as an adjuvant in organic farming formulations across the U.S.
  • Readily biodegradable. It also carries an excellent toxicological profile, which matters to growers and the people who handle the product.
  • Low volatility, high flash point. A vapor pressure of 0.12 mm Hg at 25 °C and a closed-cup flash point of 91 °C mean safer handling and lower VOC emissions.
  • Built for non-aqueous systems. Water solubility is only 10.0 wt%, which makes it a natural fit for non-aqueous and low-water formulations.

What it does in the formulation

Performance Advantages: Compatibility & Penetration

FlexaTrac® DME-ORG delivers two critical functional advantages in crop protection formulations:

Penetration Enhancement: With a low surface tension of 36.7 dyne/cm, it aids in droplet spreading and significantly enhances penetration into plant structures (such as cabbage leaves).

Compatibility Agent: Functions as an effective compatibilizer for otherwise insoluble adjuvants, active ingredients, and additives.

Cabbage leaves make a good test because their waxy surface sheds water. In this test, 1 µl drops were placed on cabbage leaves and their volume was tracked for 5 minutes as the liquid was absorbed.

The results are easy to read:

  • Pure water barely moves. After 5 minutes, about 97% of the drop is still sitting on the leaf.
  • Even 0.1% makes a real difference. About three-quarters of the drop has penetrated by 300 seconds, leaving roughly 0.26 µl (microliters).
  • More product, faster uptake. At 0.75%, only about 0.11 µl remains. At 2.0%, the drop is almost fully absorbed, with about 0.03 µl left, and half of it is gone in roughly a minute.

The response is dose-dependent, so you can tune the loading to the penetration your formulation needs.

Solvency for hydrophobic actives

Hydrophobic actives need a strong solvent, and this is where FlexaTrac® DME-ORG stands out. It’s fully miscible with metolachlor and propiconazole and dissolves meaningful loadings of several other common actives.

Packaging, handling, and regulatory status

FlexaTrac® DME-ORG ships in 204 kg drums and 20,412 kg bulk shipments. It’s listed on the US TSCA Inventory.

One practical note: the freezing point is 17 °C (about 63 °F). Material stored in an unheated warehouse or shipped in winter can solidify, so plan for heated storage or gentle warming before use.
